What is an EDI 861?
The EDI 861 Receiving Advice/Acceptance Certificate file format is used to report the receipt of shipments or also as an official acceptance of returned and/or defective items. Often, the sender transmits an EDI 861 to report to the purchaser that the shipment was received.
These EDI 861 documents adhere to the x12 format specified by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), a non-profit organization regulating EDI formats in the U.S.
How to use an EDI 861?
The EDI 861 Receiving Advice/Acceptance Certificate communicates confirmation of a received shipment. After the 861 is received, am EDI 997 (Functional Acknowledgement) is sent back from the shipping partner to indicate that the EDI 861 was successfully received.
