Business Need

Disparate data arrives at this major port in various formats and through a variety of protocols. Over time, custom data management systems had been built, but it was time to move to a more globally standardized system that could manage a quickly increasing number of transactions and leverage the speed of business through web access. With around 1,500 current trading partners and a plan for triple-digit growth in twelve months - high performance, reporting and security were mission critical. Centralized management and monitoring of a high volume of data needed to be accomplished in the background, allowing trading partners to move their goods as quickly as possible in and out of port.

IT Issue

Information standardization was needed for both the quantity and quality of data that was entering and exiting the port. Multiple protocol support was needed for FTP, SMTP, MQ, AS2 and HTTPs. Message deliveries needed to be guaranteed while meeting full EDI standards of compliance. Structure and content validation and detailed feedback on EDI failure was also needed. The creation of a closed-loop audit trail was a must. Secure communications with certificates, issue management, automated testing and software quality monitoring all needed to be implemented in a homogeneous technology environment. It was crucial that the solution was not only powerful, but included high availability, quick deployment and was easy to manage and readily accessible.
